Tiemoue Bakayoko will be a big player for Chelsea, says David Luiz

Tiemoue Bakayoko joined Chelsea over the summer for £40million after a hugely successful season with Monaco.

The 23-year-old was a key member of Leonardo Jardim’s title-winning side and arrived in south-west London with huge expectation.

He has struggled to get going in the Premier League so far this term following a knee operation and has started just two games.

However, David Luiz has every faith in Bakayoko and has claimed he will make the Chelsea fans very happy.

“I know him from playing against him in the past, I knew some of his friends from before so that’s why we have a great relationship,” Luiz said.

“We speak French together. It’s also good for me to keep learning and practising French!

“He’s a great guy, a great person, great player.

“He’s a fantastic talent and for sure he’s going to give a lot of happiness to all the supporters of Chelsea.”

Bakayoko is in line to start against Qarabag in the Champions League tonight (7.45pm) after playing the full 90 minutes against Leicester.

And the France international has admitted he wants to go all he way in the competition with the Blues after reaching the semi-final with Monaco last term.

“If I have to choose between the two, [Champions and Premier League] it would be the Champions League,” Bakayoko said.

"The Champions League has a different feeling to it, compared to other competitions.

“It is the number one competition in the world. It’s always been my dream to play in the Champions League and win it."
