Man Utd news: Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford both starting would be scary - Ferdinand

RIO FERDINAND has urged Jose Mourinho to start both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial either side of Romelu Lukaku for Manchester United.

Ferdinand: Comparing Rashford to Michael Owen is disrespectful

Mourinho has been reluctant to play both Rashford and Martial at the same time during his time at the club.

Both young forwards have been forced out wide with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku favoured up top.

But Martial and Rashford have both started the season in red hot form with the latter scoring in tonight's 3-0 Champions League win over Basel.

United have had no problems finding the net this season with Lukaku also scoring five goals in his opening five games.

It's a scary thought

However, United legend Ferdinand believes his former club would be even more threatening in the final third if Mourinho opts to play Lukaku flanked by Martial and Rashford.

"If you look at it from a defender's perspective, Rashford gives them those legs behind," Ferdinand said.

"He runs behind defences and makes you look over your shoulder.

"It's a scary thought. Lukaku does the same.

"There is a relationship developing between those two under Mourinho - with [Anthony] Martial as well.

"I want to see Martial, Rashford and Lukaku together on the pitch.

"There's pace, drive and desire to get goals as well between them. It's exciting times."
