ANDER HERRERA believes Manchester United are better equipped to challenge on all fronts this season.

Jose Mourinho led United to triumphs in both the EFL Cup and Europa League but their cup excursions hampered their Premier League form.

They finished outside the top four for the third time in the last four years, however winning the Europa League ensured their return to Europe’s elite club competition.

And the Red Devils have made an excellent start to the new campaign as they currently sit top of the league.

Mourinho said earlier this week that English sides may not be able to compete in both their domestic and European campaigns as well as their continent counterparts due to no winter break in the Premier League.

But Herrera believes Unied’s squad is stronger than recent years and are able to swap players around without weakening the team.

“I think now we can say that we have two players in every position on the pitch,” Herrera told MUTV.

“You have players like Marcus Rashford, a runner who is always looking for the space, and you have [Romelu] Lukaku who can hold the ball in the difficult moments.

“During the game, he can be there holding the ball for everyone, then you have the likes of Juan who can come inside to play football.

“Then you have Anthony Martial who is brilliant in one-against-ones, we have Chris Smalling who is brilliant at defending and Daley [Blind] who can play the ball out fantastically well from the back.

“I know it’s not easy to do what we did last season because we won three trophies, but we are going to try our best.

“I think we’re in a good moment, the club is in a good moment, we have a good understanding with the manager, so I’m very optimistic for the season.”
