Arsene Wenger's men overcame a difficult assignment

Wenger made nine changes against Cologne last night in the Europa League from the side that thrashed Bournemouth last Saturday.

The Gunners had to come from a goal behind their German opponents in order to win their opening European game.

Alexis Sanchez, who started, capped off a fine individual display with a stunning goal as the Gunners .

And Wenger has explained why he made so many changes against Cologne.

“We want to do well in all the best competitions and I had an experienced team today, even though I made nine changes,” Wenger said.

When asked for his thoughts about the performance, Wenger added: “We had a slow start and there was accidental goal. 

“After that, it was important not to concede and panic and put more pace into our game.

“From then we controlled the game and won convincingly in the end.”

Arsenal travel to face London rivals in their next Premier League game on Sunday (1:30pm).

The Gunners are 11th in the table and have picked up six points from their first four league games.
