Chelsea Arsenal: Sky Sports pundit Merson mocks Bournemouth win and tips THRASHING

SKY SPORTS pundit Paul Merson is expecting Chelsea to put Arsenal to the sword this afternoon.

Gus Poyet: Chelsea are stronger than Arsenal

Chelsea go up against Arsenal this afternoon aiming to inflict more misery on Arsene Wenger’s side.

Though they have recently secured wins over Bournemouth and Cologne, life is tough for Gunners fans.

In the two games before those fixtures, they had fallen to crushing defeats away at Stoke and Liverpool, shipping five goals in the process.

And former Arsenal star Merson has belittled their win over Bournemouth last week and thinks that, if Chelsea score first, Antonio Conte’s side could run riot against the Gunners’ shaky defence.

Chelsea Arsenal: If the Blues score first it could be anything

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson

“It’s all about the first goal,” he told Sky Sports

“If Arsenal score first you will watch and think 'wow, they look decent'.

“They will be confident and they have good players who look decent when they are winning.

“But when they are losing too many of them just go completely and utterly missing.

Chelsea Arsenal: Paul Merson thinks the Blues could run riot at Stamford Bridge

“The shape goes out of the window and if they let in the first goal it could be anything.

“People are saying to me 'what a good result against Bournemouth,' but if you could have handpicked any team to play last week it was Bournemouth.

“If Arsenal score first it will be a very interesting match, but I don't think they will.”

Arsenal last beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in October 2011, with Robin van Persie scoring a hat-trick in a 5-3 win.
