Paul Pogba set for more tests on hamstring injury

Pogba was absent from Manchester United’s squad in today’s 4-0 wi over Everton today after he was forced off with a hamstring injury in the midweek win over Basel.

Jose Mourinho admitted after their Champions League opener, in which they won 3-0, that he expected Pogba to miss “a few games”.

And BBC reporter Simon Stone claims the Red Devils were hopeful of having him back in time for Liverpool on October 14.

But that now looks unlikely, with the 23-year-old France international set for more tests.

Stone wrote: “It seems United cannot be entirely sure how long Pogba's absence will be.

“He is to have more tests next week after which more will be known.

“It is understood the initial hope Pogba could be fit for the high-profile trip to Liverpool on 14 October is unlikely to materialise.”

Mourinho admitted before today’s visit of Everton that he was happy with the number of options he has to replace Pogba in midfield.

The United boss said: “There are good players more than ready to play so honestly we miss Pogba, we need Pogba, but we have good players - [Ander] Herrera, Fellaini and [Michael] Carrick are waiting for a real chance to start the matches.

“We lost important players last season during crucial moments of the season and we weren’t crying or getting excuses in about that."
