Arsenal, who hadn’t won on their travels this season prior to their trip to Stamford Bridge, picked up an unlikely point at the reigning champions yesterday.

Iwobi and Welbeck were deployed in wide positions before they were replaced by Mohamed Elneny and Olivier Giroud.

And while accepting it wasn’t their best performances in the colours of Arsenal, Wright was quick to praise the workrate of the duo.

“They put a shift in for the team,” Wright told Match of the Day 2.

“Either of them you wouldn’t say individually had a brilliant game, but in the system they were both very effective.

“It is something you need whether Sanchez or Ozil are in there and you need the same intensity from Iwobi and Welbeck playing in those positions.”

Meanwhile, Wright was also keen to hail the efforts of Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey.

He added: “Shkodran Mustafi must get a mention and so should the back five as all of them were brilliant, but it was the performance of Xhaka and Ramsey and the discipline they showed we didn’t see that against Liverpool.

“They were close and always in front protecting and they were just fantastic.

“You can see Arsene Wenger mention they had been working on it.”
