Chelsea news: Ray Wilkins questions Antonio Conte - ‘Costa should be playing with Morata'

DIEGO COSTA should be in the Chelsea team AND playing alongside Alvaro Morata.

Ray Wilkins is a big fan of Diego Costa

That is according to former Blue Ray Wilkins.

Costa remains AWOL after being told by Chelsea boss Antonio Conte that he was not wanted at the club this season.

The Spain striker is desperate to join Atletico Madrid but so far the clubs have been unable to agree a fee for him.

In his absence, Morata has made a strong start to his Stamford Bridge career with three league goals this campaign.

But the 24-year-old struggled to make an impact against Arsenal in yesterday’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal.

I'd much rather have Costa than Morata. Why we haven't got both I don't know.

Conte defended his big-money summer transfer, insisting he had ‘a really good game’.

But while Wilkins is a fan of the former Real Madrid ace, he believes Costa should still be at the club and appeared to question Conte’s decision to ostracise him.

He told Sky Sports: ”I see a better footballer in Morata - better control, movement and probably quicker.

Ray Wilkins reckons Alvaro Morata needs Diego Costa

“But when I look at the beast in Costa... he upsets people. I'd much rather have Costa than Morata. Why we haven't got both I don't know.

“He should be at Stamford Bridge and then Chelsea would have a proper strike force.

“I just can't see why Costa is still in Brazil, playing five-a-side football on a beach with his mates."
