Huddersfield's Chelsea loanee Kasey Palmer has suffered a hamstring injury

Huddersfield signed Palmer on loan this summer after he impressed at the John Smith’s Stadium during last term’s promotion-winning campaign.

The 20-year-old had played in all of Huddersfield’s first four games of the season until suffering an injury on England U21 duty.

His hamstring problem was thought to have ruled him out until the New Year.

But Wagner now says the midfielder could be back by October, meaning there is no danger of his loan being cancelled.

"There have been further discussions now between Chelsea's medical department and our medical department and another neutral specialist as well," Wagner said ahead of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Crystal Palace.

"So he has an injury, a serious injury, maybe not as bad as we thought in the beginning, but I don't expect him back before six to eight weeks.

"It makes no sense now, where he has so many setbacks with his hamstring, always the same one, to rush something. We need him back consistently."

Palmer is one of 34 Chelsea players out on loan this season.

He played 26 times for the Terriers last term as they secured promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs.

However, his campaign was cut short in February after he suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 win over Leeds United.
