JOSE MOURINHO’S Manchester United are bearing the same hallmarks as the sides that characterised Sir Alex Ferguson’s era.

That is the verdict of Sky Sports pundit Andy Townsend.

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League since Ferguson retired in 2013.

This season, United have started strongly under Mourinho and they are joint leaders with Manchester City.

Although they had to bide their time against Everton, United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

And Townsend thinks United under Mourinho have a similar ruthless streak in much the same way the Red Devils were during Ferguson’s time in charge.

“They’ve got that ruthless nature to what they’re doing which is always good to have,” Townsend told Sky Sports’ The Debate show.

“The game could have been over a lot earlier. 

“Listening to what Ronald Koeman said after the game who felt maybe the scoreline flattered United a little bit but I’m not so sure.

“The scoreline could have been even more than it was.

“Everton had some chances and they missed some chances at 1-0 but United showed they’ve got that bit Fergie’s sides always had.”

United face Burton tomorrow (8pm) in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
