Chelsea news: Antonio Conte has changed major priority already - Brian McBride

CHELSEA are now more likely to be prioritising the Premier League over the Champions League, according to former Fulham striker Brian McBride.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte shows off impressive footwork

Antonio Conte won the league in his first season at Chelsea last term, finishing seven points clear of second-placed Tottenham.

McBride expected them to focus more on Europe's elite club competition but reckons the Italian boss has changed his mind and says the Premier League will once again be the main competition for the Blues.

“I look at Chelsea and I’m thinking ‘alright they’ve won the Premier League, they’re probably going to be focusing more towards the Champions League’,” he told ESPN FC.

“In the off-season I think they would have thought that.

“Now, whether or not that’s the case, certainly the Premier League is going to be a priority for Chelsea.”

McBride reckons Manchester United will be concentrating on winning their first title since 2013 along with Tottenham, who were last crowned champions in 1961.

But he says Pep Guardiola's Manchester City buck the trend as their squad is designed for European success.

“Manchester United, Premier League first. They want to get back on top, I can guarantee you that," the American added.

Chelsea news: Antonio Conte will be looking for domestic ahead of European success, says McBride

“They’ve put themselves back in the Champions League by winning the Europa League.

“Tottenham is probably more focused on the Premier League than that are the Champions League, looking at the Champions League as a bonus.

“Tottenham haven’t won the league in forever so a club that hasn’t won the league and has the opportunity to I think will definitely look towards that.

“Manchester City is probably the one, that team has been built to win the Champions League.”
