Real Madrid news: Karim Benzema could be sold to Arsenal to fund Alexis Sanchez deal

REAL MADRID are contemplating a swap deal in order to land Alexis Sanchez, reports claim.

The reigning European champions have an abundance of attacking options at their disposal, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale spearheading the front line, while Marco Asensio has risen to prominence in the past few months.

Karim Benzema is also a part of the infamous BBC, which didn’t quite match up to the devastating MSN line-up of Barcelona last season (Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar).

Benzema has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past, with Arsenal admirers.

The Gunners managed to hold onto in the summer, although Manchester City came very close to snatching him on deadline day.

Sanchez’s current contract expires in the summer and there is an expectation he will be plucked by one of Europe’s top clubs at the end of the season.

And according to Spanish publication Don Balon, Benzema has been earmarked for the Bernabeu exit.

The report says Real are looking to sell Benzema for £44million which could in turn, fund a move for Sanchez.

Benzema’s current contract expires in 2019, but it is unclear whether they will extend his deal.

Meanwhile, Don Balon claim Real could look to replace Benzema with Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski.

The Pole hit out at the club’s transfer policy earlier this month, questioning whether they will still be able to sign top stars.

He said: “Bayern will have to come up with something and be creative if the club wants to keep bringing world-class players to Munich.

“And if you want to compete at the top, you need to have these quality players," Lewandowski told German paper Spiegel.

"To date, Bayern Munich have never spent more than around €40 million for a player.

“In international football that has long since been more of an average [price] than a top price."
