Arsenal news: Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil should not start in Carabao Cup - Ian Wright

IAN WRIGHT believes Arsene Wenger should stick with the players that performed brilliantly for Arsenal in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea.

Steve Nicol: Arsenal mediocre without Mesut Ozil

Mesut Ozil was absent for the match against Antonio Conte’s side while Alexis Sanchez came on as a second half substitute.

Often regarded as Arsenal’s two main superstars, Ozil and Sanchez were not needed as the Gunners went on to claim an invaluable draw.

Aaron Ramsey received high praise for his dominance in midfield while Danny Welbeck worked tirelessly up front as the first line of defence.

It was Arsenal’s first point at Stamford Bridge in five matches and they became the first side to shut out the Blues at home since Conte’s arrival in 2016.

Next up is a Carabao Cup third round tie against Doncaster tonight .

And Arsenal legend Wright believes Wenger should keep Ozil and Sanchez away from the starting line-up.

“I would like Arsene Wenger to be more pragmatic in his approach, like he was in that particular game, and it’s up to the players to then execute it,” Wright told Sky Sports’ The Debate show.

“I think if they can do that then it shows that they can do it successfully without them two.

“If Arsenal can go out against West Brom, play in the same way and be as disciplined as they were and still create chances like they did against Chelsea…

“Danny Welbeck got injured so one of them will probably come back, probably Sanchez but I would still leave them both out.

“What it does is build confidence in the rest of the guys who played for each other [against Chelsea].”

Sanchez has found the net just once this season so far, scoring Arsenal’s second in the 3-1 win over Cologne last week in the Champions League.
