City lead Sanchez race

12.50: Manchester City is still Alexis Sanchez’s most likely destination despite interest from Manchester United.

City nearly signed Sanchez on deadline day after having a £60m bid accepted only to be blocked after Thomas Lemar rejected a move to Arsenal.

And City are still keen on the Chile star and are expected to make a move in January or in the summer when Sanchez would be free.

Last night the Sun reported that United were in the race and Jose Mourinho was keen to swoop for the forward.

But the Evening Standard claim Sanchez remains City-bound.

City were prepared to pay Sanchez £400,000 a week but will now have to fight off United, Real Madrid and possibly others.

Juventus, Bayern Munich and PSG made enquiries in the summer but opted for other targets.

Lacazette excited by Nelson

11.20: Alexandre Lacazette has been backed to become an Arsenal star by team-mate Alexandre Lacazette.

Nelson is expected to feature for Arsenal tonight in the Carabao Cup against Doncaster.

And the club’s record signing thinks he’s a star for the future.

“I think Reiss is very good," Lacazette told Arsenal's official website.

"I believe he will be a top player for the club.

“He already impressed me during preseason and it's great to see what he's been doing for the under-23s.

“His stats are very good and he's been performing well. When he's played with us, he's shown that he has real quality.”

Donny planning Carabao upset

08.45: Doncaster boss Darren Ferguson has claimed his players can shock Arsenal in in tonight’s Carabao Cup clash at the Emirates.

“Everyone is reflecting on the 2005 clash and the only difference is we are at their place,” he said.

“We are going down there to shock them and in a one-off game, you never know.”

Team news for Doncaster

07.20: Jack Wilshere and Calum Chambers will feature for Arsenal against Doncaster tonight in the Carabao Cup.

Wilshere came on as a substitute against Cologne in the Europa League but has not featured at any other point this term.

While Chambers has also missed out on action after returning from Middlesbrough on loan.

But both will play tonight but Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck miss out.

Sanchez to Man Utd

05:00: Jose Mourinho is reportedly ready to snatch Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez away from rivals Manchester City.

Sanchez, 28, was on the verge of securing a move to Manchester City on transfer deadline day after Arsenal accepted a bid totalling £60million.

However, Arsene Wenger blocked his move to the Etihad after failing to land Monaco winger Thomas Lemar as his replacement, with the France international opting against a switch despite the Ligue 1 champions accepting the offer.

Pep Guardiola is keen on securing a reunion with him and could reignite his interest in the former Barcelona man in January.

But The Sun claim Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is keen on hijacking his move to rivals City.

It is said that the Portuguese boss has been quoted a £25million signing-on fee for Alexis Sanchez.

Wilshere latest

04:00: Jack Wilshere looks set to be handed a chance to start rebuilding his Arsenal career in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The 25-year-old made his first Arsenal appearance since returning from his loan spell at Bournemouth in last week’s Europa League win over Cologne.

But he wasn’t in the match day squad to face Chelsea three days later with reports suggesting he wants out of the Emirates to save his career.

However, Wenger has hinted Wilshere is likely to be involved in tonight’s Carabao Cup tie against Doncaster.

“Jack has been consistent in training,” Wenger said.

“If you ask me is he back to his full, 100 per cent potential, I would say no, but he’s not far away.”

Ian Wright doesn't want Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to start against Doncaster

Ozil and Sanchez not needed

03:00: Ian Wright believes Arsene Wenger should stick with the players that performed brilliantly for Arsenal in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea.

Mesut Ozil was absent for the match against Antonio Conte’s side while Alexis Sanchez came on as a second half substitute.

Often regarded as Arsenal’s two main superstars, Ozil and Sanchez were not needed as the Gunners went on to claim an invaluable draw.

And Arsenal legend Wright believes Wenger should keep both players away from the starting line-up for tonight’s cup tie against Doncaster.

“I would like Arsene Wenger to be more pragmatic in his approach, like he was in that particular game, and it’s up to the players to then execute it,” Wright told Sky Sports’ The Debate show.

“I think if they can do that then it shows that they can do it successfully without them two.”
