Chelsea news: Antonio Conte delivers update on injury to David Luiz suffered at Arsenal

ANTONIO CONTE has confirmed David Luiz will be fit and ready for Chelsea when they take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League next week.

David Luiz doesn't need to look to score in Chelsea training

Luiz, 30, was left out of Chelsea’s squad to face Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup last night after it emerged that he broke his wrist in the goalless draw against Arsenal on the weekend.

The Brazil international sustained the injury in the first half after crashing into the advertising boardings and falling into a photographer.

He played on, but was sent off for a horror challenge on Sead Kolasinac while carrying the injury.

But despite the fracture, Luiz has returned to training already.

He will be ready for the game against Atletico Madrid

And Conte has now provided a positive update on his condition.

“He is an important player for us,”  said after their 5-1 thrashing of Forest at Stamford Bridge.

“I know what happened at the end of the first half (on Sunday).

“But he will be ready for the game against Atletico Madrid.”

Chelsea will now take on Everton in the Carabao Cup fourth round in the week commencing October 23.

But up next for the Blues is a Premier League clash with Stoke this Saturday (3:00pm).

However, it is unclear whether the centre-back will feature at the bet365 Stadium.

Conte did confirm he will be available for their Champions League tie with Atletico next Wednesday though (7:45pm).
