Former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood believes the England striker could leave the club if they fail to win a major trophy this season.

But speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to West Ham (12:30pm), Pochettino was quick to extinguish rumours that Kane is being tempted to leave north London.

"Harry is one of the best strikers in the world and many people are talking about him,” he said.

"Some people are also saying we must win trophies for Harry to stay with us but it's already been made very clear.

"He's one of our best strikers, Harry is our player, he loves Tottenham, he's staying here and he's looking forward to staying here for a long time.

"Tim (Sherwood) has the right to speak about Tottenham and Harry.

“But that is a question more for Harry and what he's going to do.

“The answer is Harry has the power and decision to say what he wants to do in the future."

The Argentine coach has helped Kane progress from being loaned out to Leyton Orient and Millwall to one of the hottest properties in world football.

"Harry's one of the best strikers in the world, and that's the confirmation - how people around the world see him," Pochettino continued.

"It says clearly that people recognise his value and he's one of the best, playing for Tottenham, when we still haven't won trophies."

But Sherwood believes the lure of bigger wages and the chance to follow in Gareth Bale’s footsteps to Real Madrid could prove persuasive.

"There's only so much loyalty someone can show," Sherwood told The Debate on Sky Sports.

"He's been outstanding over the last couple of seasons, but that only lasts a certain amount of time."

West Ham will be wary of the 24-year-old's penchant for scoring in London derbies ahead of their clash with Spurs this weekend.

Kane has so far scored an impressive 19 times in just 28 games against London rivals.
