Romelu Lukaku missed the team bus as he struggled to provide a sample for a random drugs test

The Belgian striker was selected for a random drugs test after scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win at Southampton, but he struggled to provide a urine sample.

He took so long that the coach left St Mary’s Stadium without him, leaving him playing catch up to join the rest of his teammates.

Lukaku was still inside the ground more than two hours after the final whistle, before being escorted out and driven to the airport.

It comes in a controversial week for the 24-year-old, following United and campaign group Kick It Out’s threats to punish anybody caught singing an offensive song about him.

Lukaku notched his sixth Premier League goal since his £75million switch from Everton in the summer to keep United level on points with fierce rivals City.

Despite their free-scoring form, United struggled to break down a resolute Southampton team, who failed to score for the fourth time in the league this season.

The match saw Jose Mourinho sent to the stands for leaving his technical area and stepping onto the pitch, although it appeared to be accidental.

Fans chant explicit song about Romelu Lukaku

Despite fears that the Manchester United manager may face more punishment, the FA have confirmed that they will be taking no further action.

Mourinho will be glad to have the issue resolved as he prepares for Wednesday’s trip to Russia, where his side face CSKA Moscow in their second Champions League group game.
