JOSE MOURINHO met Liverpool fans in Russia ahead of Manchester United’s Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow — and what he did next is brilliant.

Both Liverpool and United are in the Russian capital to face the two Moscow giants tomorrow - Spartak and CSKA.

Mourinho was spotted in Moscow by Liverpool fan Ste Monaghan, who has been to more than 100 European away games.

Monaghan is involved with the Spirit of Shankly group, an unofficial supporters union for fans of the Reds.

Seizing the opportunity to get a new recruit, Monaghan promptly handed Mourinho an SOS sticker which he duly adorned on his left shoulder - before posing with a pic.

The image of Mourinho wearing the sticker was duly posted on Twitter by Peter Hooton, who wrote: “Jose is a Kopite - agent @Ste_Mono has just given Mourinho a @spiritofshankly sticker in their Moscow hotel.”

The group is named after former Liverpool boss Bill Shankly and was formed in 2008 by disgruntled fans who opposed the reign of Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

While Hicks and Gillett have moved on, the group now discusses ticketing, travel and community and regeneration issues, with the ultimate aim is to seek fan ownership of the club.

The Spirit of Shankly group duly responded by writing: “Good to see Jose showing his support for the union.”

The image also caught the attention of Kop legend Jamie Carragher, who wrote "Go 'ed @Ste_Mono, kipper on Jose!!"

While Mourinho is pictured looking a little startled, yesterday was a good day for the United boss.

The Special One learnt he will face no further action from the Football Association following his sending-off against Southampton on Saturday.

The 54-year-old was sent to the stands by referee Craig Pawson for encroaching on the pitch during stoppage time of his side's 1-0 win at St Mary's.

Unlike players, however, there are no automatic bans for red-carded managers and any additional punishment depends on the referee's report.

In this case, Mourinho appears to have taken the referee's decision without any further comment or reaction and the matter is closed.

The FA is also taking no action at this point against United for its fans singing the controversial chant about striker Romelu Lukaku.

The club are understood to be liaising with Southampton to gain access to CCTV footage of Saturday's crowd so it can identify those responsible.
