Arsenal news: Arsene Wenger shocked me with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil tactics - Henry

ARSENAL legend Thierry Henry admits he has been surprised with how Arsene Wenger has treated Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Sanchez and Ozil are both out of contract at Arsenal at the end of this season.

The duo have had their fitness concerns in the opening weeks of the campaign, with Sanchez making his first home start of the season in the 2-0 win over West Brom last night.

Ozil missed the 0-0 draw with Chelsea nine days ago due to a minor knee injury and was only named as a substitute against the Baggies.

Henry says former his boss would usually bring his star men back into the starting XI, even if they were not 100 per cent fit.

However, he claims Wenger is making Ozil and Sanchez earn their place in the side and even suggests he does not fancy fielding both of them on the pitch at the same time.

More often than not, when Alexis Sanchez was back, whether he’s fit or not, he plays

Thierry Henry on Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez

“Listen, there’s something I’ve seen that I didn’t see for a very long time with that Arsenal side and Arsene doing what he did,” Henry said on Sky Sports.

“More often than not, when Alexis Sanchez was back, whether he’s fit or not, he plays.

Mesut Ozil, whether he’s fit or not or if he trained a lot or not, he plays.

“The other day I saw something at Chelsea, okay he (Sanchez) didn’t start at Chelsea, but when he came on they put him up front because they were so well organised.

Arsenal news: Sanchez and Ozil would normally be brought straight into the team, says Henry

“Today, he comes off, Ozil comes on. Maybe we’re reading a bit too much into that but this is something that Arsene wouldn’t have done back in the days. ’You’re back, you’re the man, you play’.

"The other day was like ‘hang on a minute, that team has been working hard, we’re going to go to Chelsea like that’.

“Now Ozil comes on and Alexis Sanchez comes off.

“There’s something I didn’t see before that now he said at the beginning of the game ‘the team is playing well, so he’s like any other player, he has to wait a bit’.”

Arsenal are back in action on Thursday when they face a trip to Bate Borisov in the Europa League (7.45pm) before hosting Brighton on Sunday (12pm) in the Premier League.
