Man Utd team news: Jose Mourinho confirms Phil Jones ruled out of CSKA Moscow clash

MANCHESTER UNITED defender Phil Jones will not feature in tonight’s Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow, says boss Jose Mourinho.

Jones missed Manchester United’s opening Group A win over Basel earlier this month due to suspension.

The England defender has served his European ban but Mourinho admits he will not feature for their trip to Moscow.

United posted on Twitter: “Jose Mourinho tells #MUTV Phil Jones will also miss Wednesday's #UCL meeting with CSKA Moscow.”

Jones has been key to United’s success in the Premier League this season, starting all six games alongside Eric Bailly.

Mourinho will have to decide whether to keep faith in Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof from their win over Basel or bring in Bailly.

The United boss also faces a dilemma in midfield, with Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick joining Paul Pogba in the treatment room.

He said: “We don’t have Fellaini, Pogba or Carrick, so all three midfield players we lose for this match, so the solutions are not many.

“But we try not to focus on individual battles on the pitch, we are going to have a team with quality and balance to try to win the match, which is the objective.”

On Fellaini, Mourinho added: “I do not expect him to be out for long. He was lucky, it could have been a much worse situation.”
