The 24-year-old, who has been with Los Blancos for the last six years, has committed his future to the club, agreeing fresh terms that will see his contract expire in 2022.

"Real Madrid C. F. and Varane have agreed to extend the player's contract, which will see him remain at the club until 30 June 2022," a statement on Madrid's official website read.

"Tomorrow, Thursday, at 2pm, Varane will appear before the media in the press room of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium."

Jose Mourinho signed Varane from Lens during his time in charge of Real Madrid and helped the centre-back become one of the world’s most consistent players in his position.

As a result, talk was always going to be inevitable of the Red Devils making a move for him.

But Spanish outlet Don Balon claims Manchester United eventually dropped their interest in Varane amid doubts over his physicality.

Varane has been one of the best young defenders in Europe for a few seasons and is one of Real's most coveted assets.

According to Total Sportek, Varane was being paid £100,000-per-week prior to singing the new deal, but there is no news on what his new weekly wage is yet.

There has been no indication of a release clause in the deal as yet, but given the way Real Madrid have handled recent contract renewals it’s likely there will be a massive one.

Karim Benzema signed a new contract with Los Blancos earlier this month which contained a staggering €1billion release clause.
