Saints defender Van Dijk described England international Sturridge as “a great striker - when fit”.

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand at the launch of EA Sport’s new FIFA 18 game, the Dutchman said that City’s Aguero is “small, quick and an amazing striker.”

Van Dijk was heavily linked with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool over the summer, but a move never materialised.

Ferdinand asked the centre-back to revise the stats he’d been given in the new video game which is released on Friday.

And despite an upgrade from 79 in last year’s game the Dutch international only boosted his overall score from 83 to 85, prompting Ferdinand to label him “modest”.

Van Dijk was particularly displeased with his passing rating in the game.

FIFA 18 only rate him a 67 in the category, but Van Dijk ranked himself at 85, while Ferdinand called him "one of the best defensive passers in the game."

On his quickness over the ground Van Dijk said: “People don’t really know about my pace.

“Maybe they should just call the training ground and ask for the numbers next time.”

Ferdinand caught up with Van Dijk at the FIFA 18 UK Launch, ahead of the game’s release on September 29, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and all other platforms.
