Man Utd news: Lukaku and Martial were almost telepathic against CSKA Moscow - Cascarino

The Manchester United duo shone as Jose Mourinho’s men cruised to a 4-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.

Lukaku scored a brace after latching onto two Martial crosses to take his goal tally to 10 in nine games since signing from Everton in the summer. 

Martial also set up Henrikh Mkhitaryan for United’s fourth goal, but he got himself on the scoresheet after 19 minutes after he converted a penalty to put the Red Devils 2-0 up. 

Manchester United now find themselves three points clear at the top of Group A thanks to Lukaku and Martial’s exploits. 

And Cascarino reckons the duo compliment each other perfectly, insisting that even Jose Mourinho will be surprised by how well they work together. 

“It was really interesting to watch Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku working so well together,” Cascarino wrote in his column for the Times. 

“There was almost a telepathic understanding between the two as they tore CSKA apart. 

“We all know about Lukaku’s attributes, but I wonder if it will have surprised even Jose Mourinho how much he has improved Martial. 

“Playing off the left wing, the Frenchman likes to have a central target to play balls to, and from whom to feed off. 

“It’s a perfect situation for Mourinho as he has two brilliant young talents in Martial and Marcus Rashford fighting to start, and that keeps the standard high and young players hungry. That competition is what all the best clubs have.” 

Up next for United in the Champions League is a clash with Benfica, who lost 5-0 to Basel, on October 18 (7:45pm).
