Manchester United host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford (3pm) knowing a point will see them leapfrog rivals Manchester City into top spot.

The Red Devils will be looking to maintain their impressive clean sheet record - having not conceded in five of their six league matches - but Bailly won’t be in the starting XI.

The Ivorian has been dropped to the bench with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones starting in the heart of United’s defence.

Bailly has started United’s last two matches since Saturday that saw them record victories over Southampton and CSKA Moscow, and Jose Mourinho feels he should be rested.

“I trust everyone,” Mourinho said.

“Smalling is [playing] the second game in three days. For Bailly it would be the third game in six.”

United’s backline could be in for a quite afternoon with Palace starting the game without a recognised striker.

Christian Benteke’s injury has prompted Roy Hodgson to start Bakary Sakho up front as the Eagles continue to search for their first league goal this season.
