Man Utd news: Man City have closed the gap on their rivals defensively, says Stuart Pearce

That is the view of former Manchester City defender and manager and Sky Sports pundit Stuart Pearce.

City and Manchester United are level on points at the top of the Premier League table, with only goal difference separating the two.

Pearce says injuries will play a huge factor in where the title will go at the end of the season and reckons they would affect United more than City.

However, he is still backing Jose Mourinho to pip his old rival Pep Guardiola in his second campaign in charge at Old Trafford.

I’ll still go with Man United because of Jose Mourinho

“As I said from the offset, it depends on injuries,” Pearce said.

“United can’t suffer injuries as well as City.

“The two question marks I have, Manchester United if they get injuries to real key players.

“I say the goalkeeper (David de Gea), (Nemanja) Matic and (Romelu) Lukaku being the three key players.

Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho's side will win the Premier League this season, says Pearce

“If they lose Lukaku, question marks. Manchester City, the big question mark is can they keep the ball out of the net?

“On Saturday (against Chelsea) it showed to me that maybe they are a vastly improving defensive outfit as well.

“So the playing fields have been evened a little bit.

“But I’ll still go with United because of Jose Mourinho.”
