Manchester United have the largest club ground in the UK but are hoping to increase its capacity by a further 13,000 seats in the near future.

The Red Devils are looking at boosting the size of the ground from 75,000 to 88,000 via an extension on the south stand.

It is said United are looking to recoup some of the lost capacity from an expansion of the disabled fans section which will be completed in 2020.

The works will cut capacity to 73,300 but the club are hoping to add more seats to the south stand to compensate.

The club are also said to be investigating the possibility of creating zones outside of the ground where fans can watch games.

And stadium security will also be beefed up, with a hardline crackdown on ticket touts and supporters who bring flares to matches.

2,000 tickets have been seized since last season and a three-year ban is in place for anyone caught reselling seats.

The away end at Old Trafford was lit up by numerous flares during their Champions League clash with Basel last month.

And United are set to be deploying state of the art ways to detect flares, including on-sight sniffer dogs.

The Red Devils will also be pioneering a new homeless initiative, donating all leftover food from matchdays to charities.
