Liverpool news: Why Man Utd are a problem for Jurgen Klopp’s side - Jamie Redknapp

LIVERPOOL must make sure they do not fall too far behind the leaders at the top of the Premier League.

Jamie Redknapp: Liverpool's defence has a lot of problems

That is the view of pundit and former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp.

Jurgen Klopp’s side sit seventh in the table after seven games this term and are already seven points behind leaders Manchester City and Manchester United, who are level on 19 points.

Redknapp believes the Philippe Coutinho transfer saga, where Barcelona failed in three attempts to prise him from Anfield in the summer, was a distraction at the start of the season.

He also says some of the defenders Klopp has are not good enough for Liverpool and admits the likes of City and United look much stronger.

“The start of the season hasn’t been as you expected,” Redknapp told ESPN.

“Obviously at the start with Coutinho, ‘Is he going to stay? Is he going to go?’.

“It’s been difficult for the manager and everybody concerned.

“So it hasn’t been the start that we would have liked but there’s a long way to go still.

“The problem is Manchester United and Man City look so strong, and Tottenham, so you can’t afford to let them get too far head because before you know it you’re playing catch up.

“But Liverpool, certainly defensively, have a lot of problems.

“That’s why he wanted to spend £60million, £70million in the summer to try and sort out those problems.

"Because the defenders just aren’t good enough for the club, that’s the major problem.”
