England vs Slovenia: It’s sad everything has to come through Marcus Rashford - Ian Wright

MARCUS RASHFORD was the only England player who looked like creating something in the first half against Slovenia tonight.

Ferdinand: Comparing Rashford to Michael Owen is disrespectful

That's the view of ITV pundit and former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright.

Rashford started the 1-0 win at Wembley on the left-hand side of a front three, which included Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the right and goalscorer Harry Kane through the middle.

The hosts struggled to muster many chances of note in the first half, with the Manchester United star the only shining light in a disappointing opening 45 minutes.

At half-time, Wright said it is “sad” that England have to rely on a teenager to help them through games.

It’s really sad, as a 19-year-old, everything has to come through this poor guy

“You think to yourself ‘you know what? Let’s just get it to him’,” Wright said.

“He’s our positive out-ball. That’s what he wants, he wants to take them on.

“He’s the only one who’s actually doing anything.

“This is a great ball in, I’m not sure why Gary Cahill’s not tried to get something on it.

“And then here, (Ryan) Bertrand makes a great run, it’s a super pass.

“Anything that’s going to happen for us is coming through him.

Marcus Rashford has started all but one of United's seven Premier League games so far this season.
