Chelsea news: Why Alvaro Morata’s form has been so surprising - Danny Higginbotham

CHELSEA star Alvaro Morata has surprised Sky Sports pundit Danny Higginbotham, by scoring most of his goals this season when Eden Hazard was not in the team.

Morata has scored seven goals for Chelsea in all competitions since his summer move from Real Madrid.

Four of those seven have come when Hazard was not on the pitch, with the Belgian coming back from a broken ankle.

Higginbotham says Morata has dealt with the pressure of his price tag, which could rise to £70million, well.

And he is looking forward to the prospect of seeing more of Hazard and Morata together when the Spaniard recovers from a hamstring injury.

“Very well,” Higginbotham said of Morata’s Blues start.

“Another player that’s had massive pressure on him with the price tag but not just that, replacing Diego Costa.

“He’s a brilliant focal point, he leads the line very well.

“What I like about him as well is that he brings other players in.

“What we’ve got to remember as well is arguably Chelsea’s best player going forward, Hazard, he’s been missing for so many games.

“For Morata to get the goals that he’s got with, more often than not, Hazard not being in the team.

“Imagine what it might be like now with Eden Hazard back in the team, giving him more assists.

“He’s been brilliant, he’s a clever player, he’s got great movement, gets in the right place at the right time.”

Morata has been nominated for the Premier League player of the month for September.
