Man City news: Man Utd target Jack Harrison has been told to stay at New York City

Harrison, 20, has shone for New York in MLS since his debut in 2016.

The Englishman has scored 14 times in 53 appearances, leading to a recent call-up by England Under-21 manager Aidy Boothroyd.

Harrison left Manchester United as a 14-year-old to take up a scholarship in the USA.

United have been linked with a move to bring him back to England but rivals Manchester City are said to be in pole position.

Shaka Hislop on Man Utd and Man City target Jack Harrison

Former West Ham and Portsmouth goalkeeper and ESPN FC pundit Shaka Hislop does not think a move to Manchester City would be good for Harrison at this point in his career.

That is despite the connection between the Premier League and MLS sides.

“Team-ties kind of make these easy and seamless,” Hislop said.

“It’s great for Jack Harrison to be in the England Under-21 squad.

“But you look at City’s team and I’m not sure where he fits in. No he doesn’t (fit in) and for me this is a miss.

“I think the last thing Jack Harrison needs right now is this hype. Let him continue to develop, he’s doing a wonderful job in New York.

“He’s been rewarded but let him continue to grow as a player. That step up is a bigger one than maybe are willing to admit.

“I just don’t see how it works out. It doesn’t make any sense despite the ownership ties between the two clubs.”
