Man Utd star Marcus Rashford is only England player who is not petrified - Ian Wright

MANCHESTER UNITED’s teenage striker Marcus Rashford is the only player who does not looked petrified when he plays for England at the moment.

That is the view of former England and Arsenal forward Ian Wright.

The Three Lions qualified for next year’s World Cup in Russia by beating Slovenia at Wembley last Thursday.

The 1-0 win was far from convincing though, with Harry Kane scoring the only goal in second-half stoppage time.

Since that game, manager Gareth Southgate admitted his side are a long way from being world beaters and that the hype should not be built up ahead of next year’s tournament.

Apart from Rashford, everybody else looks petrified

Wright feels that is an honest assumption but he just wants to see England put in a positive performance, like Manchester United star Rashford has been doing in the qualification stage.

“I think he’s been quite honest with them,” Wright said on ITV of Southgate.

“I personally feel that what he should be trying to concentrate on now with England now we’re there is to pass the ball forward more. Players are playing with fear.

“We’re talking about a kind of generation of players that from academy all the way up to first-team, there’s hardly any pressure put on them.

“The most these guys get pressure is when they play for England.

“When you look at the way we used to qualify out of this group, I can’t remember any game where we’ve played expansive, or not even expansive, just a positive game of football.

“People getting forward, having shots.

“Apart from Marcus Rashford, everybody else looks petrified.”
