Chelsea and Liverpool met in 2005, both aiming to make the Champions League final.

And, after a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge, the Reds prevailed courtesy of Luis Garcia’s controversial winner in the return leg at Anfield.

The former Spain international looped Petr Cech but video replays show the ball never crossed the line - despite the goal being given.

And Chelsea legend Drogba has spoken about that moment, praising the enormity of games between the two teams back in the day.

“Liverpool,” the 39-year-old told the club’s official website when asked what venues stood out.

“I really enjoyed going there and playing there. We played them in the Champions League so many times.

“You knew that it was going to be tough, a big game, a difficult game.

“They were never games you won or lost three or four nil, it was always tight, sometimes they won without goals…they were really good battles.

“Anfield is definitely one of the best stadiums to play at.”

Jose Mourinho was in charge of Chelsea at that time but, despite winning the club two league titles during his first spell, was never able to deliver the biggest trophy of them all.

And the 54-year-old, speaking 10 years after the game in 2015, swore Garcia's goal should never have counted.

“I lost a semi-final with a goal that was not a goal,” he said.

“Today it would not be a goal. Today with goal-line technology it would be different.”
