Man Utd news: David de Gea would make Liverpool title contenders, says Babb

Those are the thoughts of Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool defender Phil Babb.

Babb was asked to name his combined XI ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Anfield on Saturday (12.30pm).

He had no hesitation in choosing De Gea as the goalkeeper in his team ahead of Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.

“It’s De Gea. It’s the easiest selection,” Babb said.

I think if Liverpool had De Gea in goal they would be definitely title contenders

“Fantastic keeper, six clean sheets already this season, two goals gone by him.

“He’s one of the top goalkeepers in the world and just the easiest player to pick out of the XI.”

Babb was then posed the question of how much better the Spain No 1 would make Liverpool.

He reckons the 26-year-old would win them enough points across a season to mount a serious title challenge.

“I think roughly about 15 (points) a season,” Babb said David de Gea would win the Reds.

“So that puts them in good stead.

“I think if Liverpool had De Gea in goal they would be a completely different animal and definitely title contenders.”

Manchester United are level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League ahead of Saturday's huge clash.
