Mane has become a key player for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp with three goals in five Premier League appearances this season but he now faces missing six weeks of action, starting with Manchester United on Saturday.

Liverpool revealed Mane picked up the injury while on international duty with Senegal and scans have confirmed the huge blow.

Liverpool said in a statement on their official website: "The winger was substituted 89 minutes into Senegal's 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over the Cape Verde Islands on Saturday.

It has now been confirmed that he picked up an injury during that fixture that could keep him out of action for up to six weeks

He also joins Adam Lallana on the sidelines, with the England ace making a slow recovery from a thigh injury sustained in pre-season.

Mane's absence could mean a chance for summer signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to kick-start his Liverpool career.

Striker Daniel Sturridge will also be hopeful of getting a run in Klopp's starting XI.

And Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to slam the international break.
