Liverpool news: Jose Mourinho names which Anfield star he has been impressed with

JOSE MOURINHO has not been surprised by Mohamed Salah’s instant impact at Liverpool since his summer move from Roma.

Mohamed Salah sends Egypt to World Cup

Salah has been a revelation at Liverpool this season so far, scoring four goals in seven Premier League matches and slotting seamlessly into Jurgen Klopp’s interchangeable front three.

And he took his excellent form into the international break where his stoppage-time penalty against Congo earlier this week ensured Egypt qualified for their first World Cup since 1990.

Mourinho is all too familiar with Salah, albeit the winger is a completely different player to when the two last met.

The Manchester United boss brought Salah to Stamford Bridge in January 2014 when he was in charge of Chelsea, but the now 25-year-old struggled to break into Mourinho’s first-team plans.

He went on to re-establish his career in Serie A with Fiorentina and then Roma before earning a move to Liverpool this summer to have another crack at the Premier League.

And Mourinho isn’t surprised to see Salah fulfilling his potential.

"I'm not surprised with Salah's performance this season," Mourinho told BeIN Sports.

"I was aware of his great capabilities when he was with me at Chelsea.

“He improved during his spell at Italy, became more mature and improved physically.

"Players need time to adapt to their new teams. Some of them remain and others prefer to move to another club. It is normal in football."
