Arsenal reportedly want to sign Nikola Maksimovic

Maksimovic has struggled to hold a place down in Napoli’s back line this season.

The former Torino star, who only joined Napoli on a permanent in the summer after a season-long stint, has been relegated to a place on the bench.

Naples boss Maurizio Sarri appears unwilling to change his tactics to suit Maksimovic’s game.

And reports in Italy claim the boss could be ready to sell Maksimovic at he earliest opportunity.

According to Italian sports magazine Guerin Sportivo, Maksimovic could be free to leave in the New Year.

It is said Arsenal and Inter Milan are both interested in the 25-year-old.

Maksimovic impressed during three seasons with Torino after catching the eye at Red Star Belgrade.

strengthened their defence in the summer with Sead Kolasinac arriving at the Emirates - but further defensive recruits are desired.

Serbia international Maksimovic cost Napoli around £22million in the summer and the Serie A club would likely want at least that fee to let him go on a permanent deal.

His current contract expires in 2021.

Guerin Sportivo, in their October edition of their magazine, claim Inter are a viable option.

Inter failed to spend the big bucks promised to them by their Chinese owners during the summer.

But the San Siro giants are in the title race. They sit two points off Napoli in third place, with Juventus separating the two sides.

Inter have conceded just three league goals all season.
