Liverpool news: James Milner is the club’s unluckiest player - Phil Neville

JAMES MILNER is probably the unluckiest player at Liverpool, because he was “outstanding” last season.

Steve Nicol: Jurgen Klopp could be sacked next season

Those are the thoughts of former Manchester United defender-turned-pundit Phil Neville.

Liverpool welcome United to Anfield tomorrow (12.30pm) hoping to get their season back on track as they are seven points adrift of the Premier League leaders in seventh spot.

Jurgen Klopp has faced searching questions over his side’s defence this term, as they have already conceded 12 goals in the league.

Milner was a regular in Klopp’s starting XI last season and he played out of position at left-back, but this campaign he has been usurped by Alberto Moreno.

And Neville has some sympathy for the 31-year-old.

“I think Klopp rotates a lot, because he probably doesn’t trust playing Lovren and Klavan or Klavan and Matip together," Neville told Sky Sports' The Debate Show.

“They actually don’t play well together and they keep making the same mistakes.

Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to help Liverpool get back on track

“They can’t challenge for the title because they are not good enough at the back.

“They have a left-back who didn’t play at all last season.

“James [Milner] is the unluckiest player at Liverpool because he was outstanding last year and he can’t get a game this year in a position he previously excelled in.”
