Liverpool vs Man Utd: Jose Mourinho knows Jurgen Klopp’s side could thrash them - Keown

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho knows a win is far from guaranteed against Liverpool tomorrow, says Martin Keown.

Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield in the lunch time kick-off (12.30pm) with Jose Mourinho’s men looking to maintain their unbeaten run.

Last time the two clubs met on Merseyside in the league they played out a 0-0 affair.

Despite Liverpool’s defensive woes being a major concern for Klopp, the Reds have still pulled off some impressive results - none more so than against Arsenal in August.

Liverpool smashed four past the Gunners as the German’s men ran riot in front of the Anfield faithful.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown reckons United’s attacking stars Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford will cause problems for Liverpool but Jose Mourinho will be well aware of the Reds’ threats.

Jose Mourinho's Manchester United take on Liverpool tomorrow (12.30pm)

He [Mourinho] will have seen what Liverpool did to Arsenal and will know full well that they are capable of dishing out a hiding

Martin Keown

“He [Mourinho] will have seen what Liverpool did to Arsenal and will know full well that they are capable of dishing out a hiding,” Keown told the Daily Mail.

“I can see Jose trying to shut the game down as he did at Anfield last season but the big difference now is that he has more pace on the break.

“Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip were made to look pedestrian by Joselu before the international break when Newcastle played a ball over the top.

“Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford have more gears than Joselu. When they are away you cannot catch them.

“Mourinho’s strategy will be to hurt Liverpool on the counter-attack — but it will be more effective with Lukaku, not Zlatan Ibrahimovic, leading the line.”

Victory would take United three points clear of rivals Manchester City at the top.
