MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho provided a classic response after learning Liverpool's Joe Gomez had been named Man of the Match at Anfield today.

Mourinho on Liverpool atmosphere: 'It MOTIVATES us'

Liverpool and Manchester United played out a turgid goalless draw at Anfield this afternoon.

Gomez was given the Man of the Match award at the end after a game with few highlights to choose from.

United were far from their usual swashbuckling selves today and spent much of the 90 minutes on the back foot.

But a bullish-as-ever Jose Mourinho provided a classic response when informed who had been given the honour of the best player on the pitch.

"Who got man of the match?" he asked reporters.

"Joe Gomez," they replied.

"Well we must have played not bad then," the 54-year-old said.

United were, however, very bad indeed.

Mourinho's decision to put the brakes on rather than take them off cost them the chance to leapfrog Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

Prior to the game, many thought Liverpool were there for the taking.

But the Reds were the more attacking side and looked the likelier out of the two teams to win the game.
