LIVERPOOL star Joel Matip has admitted David De Gea's save against the Reds was 'brilliant.'

David De Gea: It's a dream to play for Manchester United

Manchester United held Liverpool to a goalless draw at Anfield this afternoon.

The Red Devils were the weaker of the two teams, with Jurgen Klopp's team always looking the likelier to break the deadlock.

Liverpool could have snatched all three points from the game had it not been for the reflexes of David De Gea.

The Spain international sensationally denied Matip from close range, sticking out his left foot to prevent United from slipping to defeat.

And the Liverpool defender praised the shotstopper after the game.

"It was a great save by De Gea," he told Sky Sports.

"I have to score – we win this game if I score. His reaction was brilliant.”

Former Liverpool boss Graeme Souness also lauded De Gea at the final whistle.

“This is a fantastic save,” Souness said on Sky Sports.

“For a goalkeeper, it doesn’t always have to be with your hands.

“I think we saw a goal from (Hugo) Lloris from Tottenham recently where he should have gone with his feet, instead he went down and was too slow at going down.

David De Gea save: Joel Matip has praised the Manchester United goalkeeper

“That is David de Gea, you see him making these saves all the time with his feet.

“He’s alert, he’s alive and he knows that’s his best chance of keeping it out.

“How quick is that? How quick is that?

“And then he’s up again and obviously from Liverpool’s point of view the ball is going to roll out nicely to (Philippe) Coutinho but (Mohamed) Salah takes it off his toes.”
