The game failed to live up to its hype on an afternoon where David De Gea was the star man for the Red Devils.

The Spanish keeper made a magnificent save with his leg to deny Joel Matip opening the scoring in the first half - the best chance of the game.

United parked the bus and rarely threatened as Romelu Lukaku and co. were kept at bay for the first time this season.

But the Red Devils boss was adamant that his side went to Anfield looking for the win.

Jose Mourinho gave credit to Liverpool's midfield

Liverpool’s midfield was really strong. They are faster than us when the game breaks. I had no chance to bring the game in another direction so it is a positive point.

"We came for three points," Mourinho said.

“We had one shot on goal - well for you and the experts it is easy to speak but it is more difficult from the sidelines.

"Liverpool’s midfield was really strong. They are faster than us when the game breaks. I had no chance to bring the game in another direction so it is a positive point.”

Mourinho also raised concern about the lack of depth in his side as he claimed he had no options on the bench to change the match.

"The opposition was good today, but we played our game," he added.

"In the first half we had a couple of very good chances and good control of the game.

"In the second half Matic tired and I had no solutions on the bench.

"I tried with my substitutions to make us more dynamic in attack, but in reality we lost power and energy and control in midfield."
