LVG hits out

13.15: Louis van Gaal has hit out at Manchester United over the way he was replaced by Jose Mourinho.

Since his departure, Mourinho has taken them back to the glory days of the Champions League and already has the Europa League the EFL Cup under his belt.

Van Gaal was sacked just two days after United beat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final with Mourinho quickly taking up the vacant position.

And the former Barcelona boss doesn’t seem to be too happy with how his departure was handled.

“How I have suspected it, the way his transfer as a manager to Manchester United went was not elegant at all, that resulted in my sacking,” Van Gaal said.

“In principle, he (Mourinho) is not a bad guy. He can be sympathetic and he was this way when he was my assistant in the past.

“But he lets himself go out of control too often.

“I have great memories and my relationship with all the staff and fans was great during my time at United.”

Lukaku and Kane transfer claim

06:30: Manchester United’s interest in Harry Kane could see Romelu Lukaku sensationally join Real Madrid, according to reports.

Spanish reports yesterday suggested Jose Mourinho had held talks with Kane regarding a potential blockbuster move to Old Trafford.

Mourinho is reportedly desperate to bring last year’s Golden Boot winner to United and is prepared to pull out all the stops to secure his signature next summer.

And a move for Kane could cause a ripple effect sending Lukaku to Mourinho’s former club Real Madrid.

That’s according to El Gol Digital, who claim Real would jump at the opportunity to sign the big Belgian forward.

Mourinho rubbish

05:30: Danny Murphy has lambasted Jose Mourinho for suggesting he lacked the personnel to put up a stronger fight against Liverpool going forward.

Liverpool and Manchester United cancelled each other out at Anfield yesterday but pundits and former players were proved correct in their prediction that Mourinho would adopt a defensive approach.

United had just six touches in Liverpool’s 18-yard box while Liverpool had 19 shots on goal and 62 per cent of possession.

But the United boss attempted to point out having three midfielders in Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick out injured restricted his options for the game.

However, Murphy was not accepting Mourinho’s excuse for taking a defensive approach.

“With the players they’ve got they should have been better,” Murphy said on Match of the Day.

“He’s talking rubbish. They’ve got a hell of a squad and they should have been better.”

De Gea swap

04:30: Manchester United could finally push through a deal to sign Gareth Bale, but Real Madrid want a compromise.

United are reportedly growing confident they can lure Bale away from the Spanish capital to Old Trafford.

The Mirror suggest United chief Ed Woodward will look to sign Bale next summer.

But the report goes on to say Real will want United to give up David De Gea in return for Bale.

It is claimed he still favours a move to the La Liga giants in the future and his departure could help Mourinho secure Bale’s signature.
