Thiago is reportedly keen on a return to Barcelona

Barcelona are in the market for a marquee midfield signing and are keen to replace Neymar following his shock £200million move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Philippe Coutinho is one of the Spanish club's top targets but they have so far been rebuffed by Liverpool who do not want to do business.

The Reds are said to have put a £160m price-tag on the Brazil international which Barca are not willing to match.

And according to Spanish outlet Don Balon, the Catalan club could soon switch their attention to Bayern Munich's Thiago instead.

Thiago is a product of Barcelona's academy, breaking through with his younger brother Rafinha.

He left the Nou Camp in 2013 for Bayern Munich where he has since established himself as one of the top midfielders in Europe.

However, Don Balon claim he is now eager to leave the Allianz Arena and return to Spain.

Barca are said to be equally keen on his return and could end their pursuit of Coutinho to secure a deal for the 26-year-old.

The Spanish giants are acutely aware they must begin planning for Andres Iniesta's retirement and Thiago would be a taylor-made fit.

He is adept to playing in a similar role to Iniesta and is also in tune with the club having spent much of his youth career at the Nou Camp.

Thiago has made eight appearances for Bayern this season in all competitions, scoring two goals.

He is under contract at the Allianz until June 2021 having agreed a new deal in April.
