Man Utd news: Romelu Lukaku hits back at critics, Real Madrid goal freed me

ROMELU LUKAKU insists his goal for Manchester United against Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup has gone some way to answering his critics.

Lukaku had a quiet game on Saturday as United were held to a goalless draw away to Liverpool.

The Belgian, who had scored in every Premier League outing prior to the clash at Anfield, netted on his competitive debut for United against Real in the Super Cup.

While some of his critics may call him a flat-track bully, Lukaku thinks this couldn’t be further from the truth.

And he insists his goal against Real gave him impetus to improve.

“I think the biggest pressure game for me was the Super Cup,” he said.

“That was the game for me where everybody was looking at me and thinking ‘Will he do it there?’

“I think it freed me from everything and I just kept going, tried to improve week in, week out.

“Every time I played for Everton we had a different mindset coming into the game.

“As a striker when I was over there I had a good time. I learned my trade over there.

“But sometimes it is difficult as well when you play against the top teams and you play not to win and don’t really create chances.

“It is really difficult.

“Now I am in a team where we want to win against the big teams and we want to win every game so I think the situation will change.”

United occupy second spot in the table, two points behind Manchester City, .
