Watford news: Richarlison escapes diving ban for Arsenal antics after panel review

WATFORD attacker Richarlison will face no further action after the FA reviewed video footage of his penalty incident against Arsenal.

Arsenal v Watford: Wenger angered by penalty decision

The Brazilian was accused of diving after a coming together in the area with Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin.

Referee Neil Swarbrick awarded a penalty which Troy Deeney converted to level the scores at 1-1, before Tom Cleverly won all three points in stoppage time with his goal.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was furious with Swarbrick’s decision, describing it as “scandalous”.

But according to BBC Sport, Richarlison will not be punished.

A three-man panel consisting of a former referee, former manager and former player reviewed the incident this morning and decided it was not simulation by the player.

There is a slight clip but not enough to give a penalty

Earlier today, former Dermot Gallagher said Swarbrick was wrong to give a penalty but did not think the player would be retrospectively banned.

He said: “I feel sorry for the referee. There is a slight clip but not enough to give a penalty.

“The player has gone down so easily that he's made the referee's mind up for him. I don't think this will fall into the retrospective action category.

“The same referee didn't give a penalty when Dele Alli dived at Huddersfield - if that one had been given as a penalty, it would have gone to the review panel.

“This one, there was a little nick so the player will argue that was enough to bring him down.

"It doesn't fall into the remit of trying to deceive a referee.”
