La Liga News: Barcelona's Messi shocked by Valverde, Ronaldo wants Rashford at Real Madrid

LA LIGA trio Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are currently dusting themselves down after the weekend’s action. Express Sport brings you all the latest news from the Spanish top flight.

Argentina's Lionel Messi produces incredible finish against Ecuador

Barcelona star Lionel Messi was shocked by Ernesto Valverde’s decision to start Andre Gomes against Atletico Madrid.

The Catalan giants saw their flawless start to the new La Liga season end at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday night, with Diego Simeone’s team holding them to a 1-1 draw.

And Spanish outlet Diario Gol says Messi - as well as Luis Suarez - was stunned by Valverde’s decision to field Gomes.

It is said both players were angry at the Barcelona boss’ decision to gamble with the Portugal international.

And they also reckon that Denis Suarez, who has registered two goals and two assists so far this season, deserved the chance to prove his worth.

Cristiano Ronaldo wants Marcus Rashford to sign for Real Madrid if they fail to secure the signature of Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

Spanish website Don Balon claims the 32-year-old wants Los Blancos to sign a new striker.

Real are known to be keen to sign Kane, who has started the season in fine form.

But Ronaldo would love for the La Liga champions to land Rashford from old club Manchester United.

He supposedly thinks that the 19-year-old will become one of the best players in world football over the next few years.

Diego Simeone has called on Atletico Madrid hitman Antoine Griezmann to rediscover his ruthless streak.

"Antoine has played in different ways in these last years," Simeone said.

"Last year he was involved less in the play, but more clinical in front of goal during certain moments of the season. He is a decisive player for us, really important in our attacking play.

"The fresher he is mentally, the better we can resolve attacking situations.

"Maybe he feels more comfortable with a partner in the style of [Fernando] Torres, [Kevin] Gameiro or [Luciano] Vietto. Recently [Angel] Correa has been accompanying him more, he drops deep more to play.”
