Maribor vs Liverpool: Nobody could have stopped us tonight - Jurgen Klopp

JURGEN KLOPP believes Liverpool’s thrashing of Maribor in the Champions League has been a long time coming.

Goals from Philippe Coutinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Trent Alexander-Arnold and braces from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah secured the comfortable win.

Boss Klopp was especially relieved given the frustrating goalless draw with Manchester United at the weekend.

But Liverpool put that behind them to make their stamp on European football once more, with their heaviest ever away victory in history.

And some critics may say that the Reds were against one of the lowest ranked oppositions in the competition in Maribor, but Klopp is not taking anything away from his players.

I know it looks like Maribor weren’t very good, but it was really difficult against us today.

Jurgen Klopp was delighted with his side's performance

“I know it looks like Maribor weren’t very good, but it was really difficult against us today,” Klopp said.

“I loved the fact we really stayed concentrated in the second half, we controlled the game, it was a very mature performance.

“Our attitude was outstanding. Spot on from the first second.”

In the other group match Spartak Moscow beat Sevilla 5-1 to rise to the top of the group.

One point separates the top three sides, and Klopp thinks qualification may even go down to goal difference, hence why he was urging his side forward for more goals in the later stages.

“Obviously with the result of the other game it is a really tight and close group,” Klopp added.

“You need goals and results. We are confident.”
