Troy Deeney slammed Arsenal after Watford beat them 2-1

The Portuguese was upset that his striker spelt out some home truths to Arsenal after the Hornets had beaten them 2-1 at Vicarage Road.

Deeney accused the Gunners of lacking “cojones” and not being up for a battle, comments that did not go down too well with his manager who asked for an explanation.

Now Silva wants Deeney to only talk about his own side.

“Troy Deeney knows my opinion on what he said and I want to finish this situation,” he said. “My opinion will stay between me and him. I spoke to him about everything.

“It is important for us and a club for our players to speak about our work and what we do as a team.

“For my players we must look inside and not outside and respect ourselves as well. Has he listened? We will see.”

There is no suggestion that Deeney will be punished for his comments.

But Silva did admit that his forthright approach in the dressing room is a positive.

“Troy is honest in his job and what he needs to do,” he said ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Chelsea.

“For me he is this way, not because we spoke about one thing or the other. He helps the dressing room in the way I want and what we need to do, nothing more.”

Watford visit Stamford Bridge in an extraordinary fourth place, one position ahead of the champions.
