Mesut Ozil has reportedly not been offered a new deal by Arsenal

Mesut Ozil is approaching the end of his Arsenal contract and will be free to talk to new clubs in January.

The 29-year-old is said to have not been interested in signing a new deal and priced himself out of negotiations with excessive wage demands.

He has been linked with a move to Manchester United, while a switch to Turkey has also been mooted for the midfielder.

However, a close friend has claimed this is not the case and blamed the ongoing contract saga on the club who are yet to offer him a new deal.

Arsenal's Mesut Ozil shows off skills ahead of possible comeback

“Mesut has not had any contract offer from Arsenal,” the source told The Sun.

“There were talks about a modest pay rise last season but all those talks ended in March.

“There’s been nothing since then.

“At the time there was uncertainty over Arsene Wenger’s future so the conversations stopped.”

Ozil’s friend has also looked to quash claims the midfielder wants excessive wages, claiming he has no ambition to become the Premier League’s highest earner.

“He has not been offered £300,000 a week — in fact, he has no offers on the table from Arsenal or any other club,” the source added.

“And he is not seeking to become the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

“That’s not his aim.”
