Chelsea news: N'Golo Kante injury is root cause of Blues problems - Pat Nevin

CHELSEA are missing injured star N’Golo Kante.

Chelsea star N’Golo Kante forced off with injury

That’s the verdict of former Blues forward Pat Nevin in the wake of last weekend’s 4-2 win over Watford at Stamford Bridge.

Kante has bolstered a reputation as one of the world’s best defensive midfielders since moving to the Premier League in 2015.

And he enjoyed a reasonable start to the season before suffering a thigh injury while he was on international duty with France.

Kante has subsequently missed Chelsea’s defeat to Crystal Palace and draw with Roma, as well as being absent for Saturday’s laboured victory over Watford.

Nevin has now offered his verdict on the impact Kante’s injury lay-off has had on Chelsea.

Writing for Chelsea’s official website, Nevin said: "For all that positivity, I still think most Chelsea fans have the same feeling, it has not been comfortable since the Atletico Madrid away game and there have been too many goals lost in that period to be relaxed.

"I read a quote the other day which I intend to use very regularly from now on: ‘For every complex problem there is a solution that is simple, direct, understandable and wrong!’

Chelsea hero Pat Nevin says the Blues are missing France international N'Golo Kante

"It just means people find it easy to grab at one thing when there is usually more complexity involved. I do almost always agree with this, even when talking about our current form, but I would still have to accept that maybe one point more than any other is the root cause.

"We are missing N’Golo Kante. It may be simple, direct and understandable but this time it is almost certainly right too."

Chelsea are in Carabao Cup action when they welcome Everton to west London tonight (7.45pm).

Their next Premier League fixture is away to Bournemouth on Saturday (5.30pm).
